This East Coast Z28 Is A Work In Progress...

Motortopia brings us this car-in-progress out of Walton, New York, an ’80 Camaro Z28 belonging to a forum member who goes under the alias of “Woody2136.”
According to the early-‘80s Camaro owner, the unfinished pony already has several performance tweaks, intended for both the street and track, but he plans on eventually adding a shot of nitrous to the overall scheme, and wheels and bodywork are also in the Z28’s future.

Currently, “Woody” is running a 355 small block in his ’80 Camaro, and the buff small block chases a T56 6-speed with a brand new shifter, driveshaft, flywheel, clutch and 4.10 gears. The 355 features Vortec heads with 64cc chambers, a Comp 280 cam, TRW forged pistons, RPM AirGap intake and a set of self-aligning, 1.5 ratio rockers.

The front suspension has been rebuilt with poly bushings and lowered springs, and the subframe has been reinforced with solid mounts and welded-in connectors. Woody also upgraded the Z28’s braking system by switching to larger rotors, and by converting from drum to disc in the rear, making the pony’s stopping capabilities that much safer.

To get his Camaro to hook-up, Woody uses drag radials with adjustable traction bars, and after breaking the Z28’s rear at a recent trip to the track, he threw a new rear-end into the pony and got it back up on its feet. Since then, the Camaro’s ignition and fuel system have also been upgraded. All things considered, Woody’s ’80 Z28 has accumulated quite a long list of performance mods as it is, but as he himself has said, the car is still very much a work in progress.
